In the Autumn 2013 Quarter I taught HSTAA 411 Civil War and Reconstruction.
This course focuses on the Civil War and Reconstruction, but also urges students to consider the competing historical memories of the war. It is clear through recent pop culture, political developments and news stories that the ghosts of Civil War pasts continue to haunt us.
HSTAA 303 Modern American History from 1877
Exploring the development of the United States post-Reconstruction, this course begins with the rise of Jim Crow and continues on with a focus on the intertwining relationships between race, empire and the development of the American state and economy. Students will gain valuable primary research and analysis skills.
HSTAA 101 Survey of the History of the United States
In this survey we explore developments in American history from the pre-Columbian period through the latter half of the 20th century. This broad overview of the nation's history is meant to not only provide students with a necessary knowledge of the US history but spark their interest in the field of history and teach them valuable analytical skills.
